From the IRS Tax Stats at a Glance, I have graphed the percent of returns compared to percent of dollars collected (before refunds), broken out by the type of tax: Individual, Employment, Corporate, Excise, Estate, and Gift.

Adoption of New Technology since 1900

in Other

Historical graph showing the adoption of new technologies in the United States (designed by Nicholas Felton that I found via the New York Times). For example look at percentage of households that had telephones over the last 100 years and compared this to the time it took for cellphones to be adopted.

12/23/2010 I found a more detailed version of this graphic at Karl Hartig’s portfolio site. Download pdf here

Instead of income this graph focuses on personal net worth. I found the pie chart at Metrics 2.0, depicting the share of personal wealth by region in 2000.

Regional wealth share

Average wealth amounted to $144,000 per person in the USA in year 2000, and $181,000 in Japan. Lower down among countries with wealth data are India, with per capita assets of $1,100, and Indonesia with $1,400 per capita.
