Who among the "working poor" are the income generators? "Negative" tax rates to corperations is as ignorant of how the system works as you claim this chart is "useless, and missleading. As a business owner the tax burden falls on everything from the cost of toilet paper to workers comp/liability would absolutely cause your head to spin. On the RARE years that I actually get money back, and my tax rate was mathematically negative was due ONLY to the fact that I OVERPAID into the system. These days I pay a very talented bookeeper who pays my taxes quarterly and watches it closely to insure that I do not over pay.

A chart focused on Federal Income Tax liability is useless, and misleading. Too many people use this very data to suggest that the working poor do not contribute, when sales, excise and especially payroll taxes consume a larger share of their income than the total tax burden on the wealthy. And who among the "working poor" enjoys a negative tax rate in the millions too many corporations enjoy?

Who do you think makes all those yatchs, and luxury brand cars? Those are made by workers with high wages and expensive health plans. Even limited skilled house hold workers make 20-35$ per hour, paid by the upper wage earners. Who hires painters $30-40$ an hour, or lawn maintenance workers ( My brother in law pays his staff 20$ an hour plus heath care). The rich employ many people, and provide a living wage even if they do not own a corporation or business, by virtue of their lifestyle.Without all this" useless stuff", our unemployment rate would be much, much higher. Please stop drinking the koolaid, stop being jealous, and go make some money for yourself. You CAN do it! I will be the first congratulate you on your new Cadillac Escalade!!!!

That's income tax. People in the bottom do pay sales taxes and payroll taxes, which are more regressive than income taxes.

It would be nice to see "share of nation's income" next to "share of nation's income taxes paid" for a useful comparison...

Ah yes, they should work those very important jobs at Mcdonalds, and produce some more consumer goods that no one needs. That is what america needs! more production, more stuff for the upper classes, more yachts and luxury brand cars! that's what we need! Screw those lazy welfare leeches! Why can't they produce more like those very productive bankers or advertising executives?

And therein lies the problem. Socialist welfare parasites pay nothing, while getting all of the welfare program benefits. Free rent, food, education and medical care. Heck, why not throw in free cars, clothes and electronics for them as well? After all, they're "needy" right?

Saul you miss the graph's point - 99.8% of the people earning less than $10,000 a year do not pay taxes; likewise 21.5% of the folks making between $50,000 and $75,000 DO NOT pay any taxes. Conversely, about 60% of the US tax burden is paid by the wealthiest 5% of the population. The so-called middle class who think they pay too much tax, only contribute 10% or more to the pot (depending on what income bracket you want to include as middle class). That is all assuming I read the chart correctly.
