Change in Wealth by Class 2007-2009

From The Wealth Report blog

Although the graphic is nothing special you don’t see this data very often. Change in overall wealth (not income). The rich suffered a smaller percentage decline than did the bottom 90% from 2007-2009.

it’s interesting that the second fifth suffered the biggest losses. i wonder how this group breaks down in terms of age/retirement status and income/profession.

also, did you mean to write “bottom 80%”, since your graph is divided into top fifth and bottom four fifths?

The graphic is not just “nothing special” but a really bad visualization. Why is the “top 1%” sorted below the “top fifth”? The “fourth” “middle” and “second” should probably be qualified as quintiles. An the “bottom four-fifths” just adds to the confusion. And, it would really help to have the actual wealth ranges quantified.
