About

VisualizingEconomics.com

2006 version

Visualizing Economics is an web site dedicated to publishing infographics about economic data. I launched this site in 2006 and post examples of my own work and the best of what I find on the web. If you’re new here, you should subscribe to my RSS feed to get the latest graphs and maps sent to you as soon as they are posted. You can check out Visualizing Economics’ stats or its ranking on Alexa, Quatcast or gongol.com’s EconDirectory. You may have seen my work at Slate.com, NPR.org, WashingtonPost.com, The Big Picture, Seeking Alpha, PBS Newshour or on MSNBC. Also VisualizingEconomics.com has been recommended as a resource by economics professors and by the Library of Congress. Here is an interview I did for Owni.

Catherine Mulbrandon

I am a native of Washington DC. In 1993, I graduated with an AB in Economics from the University of Chicago. During the next eight years, I worked for a financial consulting firm where I mastered Excel and learned about the financial markets.

In 2004, I completed the 2 year Master’s program in Interaction Design at Carnegie Mellon, where I explored information and interaction design in both print and digital pieces. In my Master’s thesis, I created a series of posters presenting data about the United States’ economy. From this project Visualizing Economics.com was born.

What I do here

In 2009, I started a consulting company where I create data visualization and infographics, Mulbrandon, Research, Design & Insights with my brother, Matthew Mulbrandon, a geographer with extensive experience creating maps and working with Census data.

To learn more about my work you can look up my  LinkedIn profile or take at look at the infographics I created for this blog or my portfolio.

I live in Jersey City and tweet here. You can contact me at catherine[at]mrdiconsulting.com

FYI, I am not taking on any freelance work as I work to finish my Illustrated Guide to Income in the United States, but if you are interested in hiring someone take a look at FlowingData.com’s job forum. It is a site for designers, statisticians, and computer scientists interested in data visualizations.
