Screenshots taken from NYTimes Interactive graphic. While not the most recent unemployment data, I liked these maps because you see the the location of the house bubble and the manufacturing in the U.S. and the severity of the unemployment in many of those areas.

Housing Bubble

Unemployment rate in counties where home prices rose to at least 175% of 2000 levels.

Manufacturing

Unemployment rate in counties where at least 25 percent of earnings came from manufacturing, 1998-2000.

Change in Home Prices: 2001-2008 (NYTimes)

From New York Times Economix blog. The change in home prices for the previous 12 months for 20 US cities from 2001-2008. I took the graph for each city and order them by the change in home prices from Oct 2007 – Oct 2008. The blue bars is each city’s data while the gray is the 20-city average.
